Terrace Communities for Assisted Living and Memory Care in Vermont signed on for a solar farm in 2019 to offset electricity costs for its Woodstock Terrace in Woodstock, Valley Terrace in White River Junction, and Equinox Terrace in Manchester Center communities. Birthdays are an annual opportunity to celebrate life and the joy each person bring into the lives of others. It’s for this reason that Woodstock Terrace Assisted Living works with its residents’ loved ones to ensure they have a special day. Recently, Sherm Howe was on the receiving end of the senior living community’s birthday celebrations when he observed his 94th birthday. Howe was honored by family and friends who gathered and looked back on Howe’s amazing life story and all that he has done for the local Woodstock community. When it comes to learning, you’re never too old or young to try something new. It’s with this in mind that the residents of Windham Terrace Assisted Living are gathering school supplies and “heading back to school” as part of an intergenerational partnership between the senior living community and Windham High School. Once a month, residents from Windham Terrace visit the high school where they have the opportunity to jump back into class with the students and participate in the day’s assignment. Subjects run the gamut, ranging from basic math and science courses all the way through to creative writing and jewelry making. Each class not only provides residents the chance to revisit their youth, but also to engage with young people and learn about their experiences. This April, residents at Wheelock Terrace are celebrating Physical Wellness Month. And for one retired physical education teacher, physical wellness is her mantra all year long. Jean Kraemer spent decades teaching children the benefits of fitness and encouraging them to stay active. Today, she’s front and center at Wheelock Terrace’s fitness classes Mondays through Saturdays cheering on her peers. If the weather is nice, you can also catch her doing laps around the community. Residents at Valley Terrace put on their walking shoes, and they’ve been going the distance. In fact, they recently walked nearly 3,000 miles, which is as far as Dublin, Ireland. This is a fun and active way to stay fit that always includes a big themed celebration once the residents reach their goal.
